Chunkis is a high-performance, sparse storage engine for Minecraft. It slashes world save sizes by ~90% by only persisting player-made changes, using a custom binary format (CIS) designed for speed and efficiency.
The Lean Storage Engine for Minecraft
Minecraft is amazing, but the way it saves worlds is... heavy. Every single block, even thousands of "Air" blocks in the sky, takes up space on your hard drive. Over time, your world folder grows into a giant that's hard to backup and even harder to share.
Chunkis changes that.
Chunkis is a smart storage mod that fundamentally changes how your world is saved. Instead of saving everything, it asks a simple question: "Has the player changed this?"
If you haven't touched it, Chunkis doesn't save it. It simply lets the world generator handle it when you return.
Chunkis is currently in Beta. While we take data integrity very seriously and have tested it extensively, it is a significant change to how Minecraft handles your data.
Just install the mod! Chunkis works silently in the background. It automatically takes over the saving process, ensuring your world stays lean and mean from the moment you start playing.
