About
Latitude
Your world, realistically reimagined.
Say goodbye to biome whiplash. Latitude brings logic, scale, and immersion to Minecraft world generation by organizing biomes into deterministic, globe-like climate bands. Travel seamlessly from humid equatorial jungles to frozen polar extremes in a natural, predictable progression.
- ⚠️ Latitude won't affect existing worlds. Create a new world to apply Latitude.
- Current known issue: World sizes between v1.1.0 and v1.2.1 have been reduced by half in error, as related to a mistake between radii logic. Currently being fixed and will updated as soon as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience.
🌍 Immersive World Generation
-
Global Climate Bands
Biomes are assigned based on distance from the equator, creating realistic latitude zones rather than random noise.
-
Smooth Biome Transitions
Adjacent climate bands can blend via transition bands (e.g. arid → semi-arid → tropical) for more natural borders, while preserving clear regional identity.
-
Deterministic & Modpack-Safe
World generation is fully deterministic and datapack-friendly, making Latitude safe for long-term worlds and modpacks.
-
Smart Compatibility
Uses globe:lat_* biome tags so modded biomes can be cleanly assigned to climate bands, with a safe vanilla fallback.
🌐 Flexible World Scale
Tailor the globe to your playstyle with preset world sizes:
- Small: 7,500 × 7,500 blocks
- Regular: 10,000 × 10,000 blocks
- Large: 15,000 × 15,000 blocks
Biome bands and spawn logic scale with world size. Border warnings/effects trigger based on distance to the world border for consistent behavior across sizes.
🌐 World Creation
- Latitude uses a custom globe-style world generator.
- This ensures latitude-based biome bands, climate scaling, and polar logic generate correctly from the start.
- As of v1.2.0, Latitude is enabled by default when creating a new world.
🧭 Pro Navigation & HUD
Latitude includes a professional-grade navigation HUD built for exploration-focused gameplay:
- Compass HUD with cardinal, 8-way, or degree-accurate display modes
- Accurate Latitude Readout that matches your real in-world position
- Zone Enter Titles showing your current climate band as you cross boundaries
- Fully Customizable Appearance (scale, colors, opacity, anchors, background, shadow)
🛠️ HUD Studio (New)
HUD configuration is handled through a dedicated adjustment screen, keeping gameplay and settings cleanly separated:
- Press
K to toggle compass HUD. Press F9 to open settings menu. Configurable keybinds in Controls menu.
- Drag and position the Compass HUD and Zone Enter Title directly on screen
- Optional snap-to-grid for precise alignment
- Forced preview visibility ensures HUD elements are always visible while adjusting
- No misleading previews or UI overlap
❄️ Survival Awareness
Never wander blindly into extreme climates again:
- Pole & Edge Warnings provide clear feedback as you approach dangerous latitudes
- Warning messages toggle lets you hide on-screen warning text (fog/particles/effects still apply)
- Server-side status effects apply only in appropriate polar regions
- Designed to inform, not annoy — no storms, nausea, or intrusive effects
🧩 Compatibility
- Fully compatible with major world-gen mods such as Tectonic and Geophilic
- Designed to integrate cleanly into modpacks via biome tags
- No required dependencies beyond Fabric API
